Well, a few days ago I finally received my brand new fully spec’d out MacBook Pro 15-inch Space Gray with Touch Bar after about a 2-month wait. Y I K E S !
I thought it only natural to give a fully comprehensive review.
Get cozy, this is going to be a long one.

This thing is gorgeous. I hate to admit it, because I am still mad at Apple for sacrificing performance for aesthetics. The space gray is real sharp and the loss of the light up apple logo in the rear is fine. I was surprised I didn’t miss it as much as I thought I would. The mirror finish apple was a nice touch.
It is thin, really thin. And I am still don’t like that. But there is nothing I can or ever could do about. So, I will deal.
You can check out some more pics of the MBP right below.

Talk about a great feeling keyboard. It gives the feeling that it is mechanical, though we all know it isn’t. The keyboard just has a great feel to it, and the clicking noise is great. Really pays tribute to those clicks keys we all know and love.
It is a vast improvement over the previous generations keyboard. In fact, going back to my old 2012 Retina MBP the keyboard feels like mush.
I feel like I cannot stress this enough, I am in love with this keyboard. It might actually convince me to like this computer yet.

This thing is fast, the benchmark tests I read online prior to purchasing did not exaggerate, check my personal benchmark test below. Shout out to GeekBench for the awesome software.

Gorgeous, bright, and crisp. Those are the best words to describe this masterpiece. This display is 67% brighter than the previous generation that is 500 nits of brightness, and it shows. It is as thin as the MacBook’s display at .88mm and shrinking. What is even better, is that it consumes 30% less energy that is due to the new variable refresh rate and more power-efficient LED’s. That cool, but it leads us to the end of my positives and brings me to the negatives.

As I am typing this I am paying close attention to the keyboard. I am using Safari and that is all. Nothing else is running including the keyboard backlight. I have been working on this post for about 45 minutes and I have lost 17 percent battery life.
The first day I got the machine I opened the box and it had 88 percent battery power , I charged it up to 100%. Over a nine hour work day, I had to charge the computer twice because the battery life had dropped down to under 5%. Yup, that’s right folks in less than a nine hour time frame my computer went from 100 percent to five percent, wait for it.

To be fair I haven’t cast my full judgment yet, I am going to use it for a few more days and see if it gets any better, but I do not have high expectations.

To be fair I am not mad at the amount of ports that come on the new MBP’s. I was initially but I got over it quickly. I am mad about how many dongles I need! It is completely bonkers. Someone needs to come out with a docking station quickly!
**Edit** Hengedocks just released this bad boy.
It is a great looking docking station for the MacBook Pro but unfortunately it comes a very steep price. For the 15-inch you are looking at roughly $520 bucks to your door. I really don’t want to spend that much on a dock especially after spending $3,500 on the laptop.

I am not talking about the end of this write-up but rather the color. That’s right the same space gray I previously said I was in love with. The problem with the space gray is it scratches and smudges very easily. So, if you are one of those meticulous MacBook owners that likes their computer to be very clean at all times, space gray might not be the color you are looking for. I have unfortunately found this out the hard way.
I am hoping that over time Apple with iron out the kinks and I will come to appreciate this laptop a little more. As it stands right now I am not a huge fan other than aesthetically.
It is really sad, I have been a die hard Apple Fanboy for the past 15 years and I find myself now-a-days not only impressed but enchanted by what is going on in the PC world. Who knows perhaps Apple will see the light and come around and actually bring back some pro features. But until then I guess we will watch as they continually allows how the machines looks dictate what hardware makes it into the computer.
